Get Inbound Links- Make Them Work For You
April 10th, 2009 Posted in Uncategorized
Inbound links are your best friend. They’re links from external pages (such as blogs) that link back to your site. You don’t want just any link, however. In order for an inbound link to increase your popularity on search engines, it has to come from a reputable and quality site. It’s like this: if Yuengling had a party and wanted to create buzz through word-of-mouth, he wouldn’t tell Natty Light to spread the word, he’d tell Heineken or Blue Moon.
“If Yuengling wanted to promo a party…”

Great inbound links send a signal to Google that your site is important. Which means that during a keyword search, your site will show up on the first page of Google, and eventually in the #1 spot, leading to increased traffic and conversion.
How do inbound links lead to a higher PageRank?
Let’s pretend that you have a site and it provides info on going green. If your site has relevant content about going green that people frequently access, this will boost your PageRank. If other reputable sites (of green interests) link to yours, that will also contribute to the PageRank signal and boost your ranking.
Here are 3 guaranteed ways to build inbound links:
Start a blog
Why? Blogs are a great way to 1) share what you know and 2) engage people with similar interests. Invest some serious time in showing your expertise by doing research to write original articles, and post regularly. The more frequently you update your content, the happier Google will be and so more people will come to your site. Make it exciting, interactive and interesting. When people come to your site, you want to teach them something worthwhile.
“When people come to your site, you want to teach them something.”

Participate in other blogs
Why? You’ll probably learn something. There are people all over the world writing about what they know (like you should be doing). Take what you learn from bloggers and use it. More importantly, offer your knowledge and ask sincere questions. Show the blogger that you really enjoy their site. Engage with other users. Bloggers are more likely to work with you (and will be nicer about it) if you’ve already established a relationship with them.
Provide a product or service
Why? People love free stuff. If you’re lucky enough to have sample products, you’re set. This is one of the most effective ways to create a good buzz. Since you’ve been building relationships with bloggers (assuming that you paid attention to my the last point), go ahead and capitalize on it. Offer them one of your products to giveaway on their blog. If it’s a valuable product, you’ve just entered the consumer’s evoked set of brands. Offer the product in exchange for a link that is optimized for a specific keyword (of interest to your site), wait two weeks and watch your page appear higher on search engines.
“Watch your page appear higher on search engines…”

Inbound link building involves being interactive on many different levels. The more levels you participate in, the better your chances for more inbound links, leading to a higher PR. Be active, be patient, and engage, engage, engage.
