As Mobile Gets Smarter, Consumer-Brand Relationships Change
October 6th, 2009 Posted in Mobile CommerceRemember when computers were so big they took up practically your whole desk? Who would have ever imagined that we would soon be able to hold them in the palm of our hands?
Technology is booming, and we have come so far in the past several years. It certainly makes me wonder, if I was from the past (20 years ago) and traveled through time to the present year, what I’d think mobile devices were–are they trendy, new surgically attached appendages? For many, cell phones act as a constant link to the rest of the world.

Smartphones used to be targeted just to business people, but today they are becoming increasingly popular among private users. In fact, according to AdWeek, mobile web usage in the U.S. has more than doubled in barely two years.
Our lives are completely changed because of cell phones. Everything we need is on one device–your alarm, telephone numbers, calculator, camera, internet, and much more.
So many different areas of our lives are linked to our phone that it would be extremely difficult to function without it. People have become so dependent on their cell phones that they feel naked without them. It is absolutely amazing to see all of the different things that we can do at our convenience, and it makes us all wonder what’s next, and what more will a cell phone be able to do?

Not only has the technology of cell phones changed individual people’s lives, but it has also affected businesses as well. With usage having increased by more than 400 percent since the millennium, mobile phones have become more valuable to people, which ultimately makes them more valuable to businesses as well.
Mobile marketing allows for businesses to engage with their audience anywhere, at any time. For example, Lufthansa passengers can book flights, check in and use a QR code as a boarding pass.
If a brand is lagging behind and not keeping up with the mobile marketing, while competing brands are, this can potentially affect a business in a big, negative way. To survive in this increasingly connected world, businesses must keep up with the innovations to accommodate the needs and expectations of their customers by playing a role in their daily lives.
